“This day will be a ‘jazz version’ of the wonderful symphony field trip many of us took when we were kids,” said Mary Beth Natarajan, Executive Director at Jazz Artists of Charleston. “This is a great way to get young people interested in the arts – and it may even spark a few careers in jazz!”

“Our new Swing! exhibit is an interactive space that uses music, movement, manipulatives and mentoring experiences to introduce children and their families to the rhythms, history, and cultural influence of jazz, through guided play and materials exploration,” said Nichole Myles, Executive Director of the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry. “Swing! focuses on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education experiences which correlate to enhanced brain development and life-long executive functioning, including the ability to think both creatively and critically, problem solve, and collaborate.” The Children’s Museum also developed a jazz-oriented curriculum that teachers can use to continue the education experience when they return to the classroom.
